FLASHBACK SAMPLER

AUDIO SAMPLER APP

A little rolling buffer audio sampler used to limit test knowledge of memory systems and also making ad hoc live-sampling to DAW more fun. Getting rewritten in ZIG.

Dev logs

Summary

THUNKER: Kind of like a retractable keychain hooked to your belt, but the keys are audio channels and the belt is your machine.

STATUS: PRE-ALPHA (SOMEWHAT BEHAVED)

A snappy rolling sampler that captures audio from any device or process on your machine. App design aims to emulate a tape-to-tape turntable hybrid. Where you can drag and pull clips from a live buffer directly into your daw, slice and chop in them in the app. Wanted to double as a ZIG learning experience, so it's being rewritten from python currently.

Back of the box

  • Record anything: Devices, processes, if there is an audio signal it'll grab it.
  • Isolated channels: Full-bitrate per channel or muxed audio tracking.
  • Drag & drop to DAW: Drag a slice from the buffer right into DAW.
  • Snappy & Lightweight: A lot of work going into footprint and responsiveness.
  • Learn a bit of ZIG: Documentation intentionally educational to explore concepts.
  • Multiplatform (WIP): Rewriting to run multi-platform & mobile
  • Lots more to come: VST, native, ui overhaul, presets, & more.

Systems

  • ASIO, audio channels, and kernel-level audio processing
  • Outgoing Python, a little C
  • Incoming zero-dependency ZIG
  • Multiplatform test harnesses
